A Healthier Mind – The Natural Way
Trichotillomania (trik-oh-til-oh-MAY-nee-uh) is categorized as an Impulse Control Disorder and OCD are related through triggers. Herbs offer a source of relief to some people dealing with trichotillomania and Mental Health worries.
Trichotillomania, also known as Trich, is the compulsive urge to pull out (and in some cases, eat) one’s own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, distress, and social or functional impairment.
Aromatherapy practitioners and Herbalists use a combination of frankincense and myrrh to ease emotional tension, depression, anxiety and panic. Traditionally, practitioners believed in the medicinal benefits of frankincense and myrrh for mental clarity; it was said that the tree resins could open the mind and promote memory.
Bergamot is thought to mimic Diazapam which was first marketed as Valium a benzodiazepine drug. Bergamot is for peace, happiness, sleep and stress. Bergamot has the benefits of bringing peace to the nervous system in a gentle natural way. It’s commonly used for treating anxiety, panic attacks and to reduce tension, anxiety and even depression. It has sedative properties. It calms anxiety and relieves fear. It is considered a natural antidepressant and all-purpose mood enhancer.
Lavender
I know youy all know this one but its got to be my personal favourite. Lavender has been used for centuries as a tonic to ease conditions of the nervous system. It is a relaxant that calms nerves, relieves fatigue, depression, migraine and tension headaches, nervous exhaustion, irritability and excitement.
Lavender act as a mild sedative on the heart and may be effective in lowering blood pressure.
Lemon Balm has been used for thousands of years as an effective calmative that is beneficial for all kinds of nervous problems, including tension headaches, migraines, neuralgia, hysteria, nervous tension, stress, anxiety, excitability, heart palpations (resulting from anxiety) and agitation. Frequently called “the calming herb,” it may be effective in treating Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders (ADD- ADHD), easing such symptoms as inability to listen, fidgeting, inability to sustain attention and shifting from one incomplete task to another. It also appears to relax muscle tension without daytime drowsiness.
To combat anxiety and insomnia, Lemon Balm is used to calm and relax the nerves, and Lemon Balm is an old and particularly reliable treatment for relieving the feelings of melancholy and depression.
Patchouli
The distinctive aroma of Patchouli is a blend of earthy richness and exotic spice with a gentle sweetness. This duality in its properties is reflected in its ability to relax the body while stimulating the senses and as such it is greatly prized for its effectiveness as an antidepressant, helps relieve nervous disorders and eases psychological, emotional and anxiety issues.
Myrhh
Because Myrhh opens the heart chakra and is uplifting to the mind myrrh may be used to treat emotional disturbances, depression and anxiety.
Myrrh can lower blood pressure, calm breathing and act as a powerful antidepressant.
Herbal medication should be used with additional techniques to help combat anxiety. Some of these techniques include yoga, relaxation through breathing, exercise, massage, positive meditation and aromatherapy.
